An Agile Roadmap
Andrew Makar, PMP   (December 2, 2009)

With an integrated application lifecycle management solution, Rally Software addresses the challenges of transitioning to enterprise agile software development, with an emphasis on engaging communities of users and stakeholders.

Agile software development is far more than just a trend in the IT community, and adoption is now steadily increasing at the enterprise level. According to Forrester research, agile systems lifecycle adoption is up 35 percent compared to 10 years ago when agile adoption was zero percent. At a September 2009 Rational mini-conference, IBM indicated that their entire organization has adopted agile software development as a key enabler for their own internal software development. But while Agile enthusiasts exalt the virtues of Agile practices, enterprise organizations are tasked with balancing methodologies while delivering an IT portfolio, creating a number of challenges.

Within the enterprise, a common desire is to adopt more agile practices, but many larger organizations struggle with transition from traditional waterfall software development to an agile approach. Organizations need a roadmap to help with the transition and I recently had the opportunity to explore enterprise agile development with Rally Software’s Richard Leavitt, executive vice president of worldwide marketing.
