How's It Going, PMI?
Aaron Smith   (October 14, 2009)

PMI chief operating officer Mark Langley shares his thoughts on the turbulent economy, its impact on members, working with the Obama Administration, making Agile inroads, and what’s ahead for the world’s largest project management organization in 2010.

By the time more than 4,000 project management professionals gathered in a Denver, Colorado, one year ago to attend the largest ever PMI Global Congress, the darkening economic clouds of the previous months had already turned into a full-blown storm and a worldwide recession would soon officially be acknowledged. After enjoying exponential growth in membership, and managing a flurry of new offerings and rapid global expansion over the previous few years, leadership at Project Management Institute knew that 2009 promised far different and more difficult challenges.

This month, at the PMI Global Congress in Orlando, Florida, ProjectsAtWork caught up with Mark Langley, executive vice president and chief operating officer of PMI, to chat about the past year as well as what’s on the horizon for the world’s largest project management organization, with nearly 500,000 members in more than 180 countries.
