Mind Mapping A Better View

By integrating analytical processes such as scope definition and schedule development with non-linear, collaborative activities such as brainstorming, a mind-mapping solution can help project leaders do their jobs more efficiently and communicate to a broader audience more effectively.

A quick web search of “mind mapping software” yields more than 94 million results, including several leading providers: MindJet, FreeMind and iMindMap, among others. However, because the integration of project management and mind-mapping software is still a relatively new concept, only a few software vendors provide support for project management processes.

I recently started working with MatchWare MindView 3 and found it offers an impressive set of features for the project manager looking to quickly generate a work breakdown structure (WBS) and calculate a bottom-up estimate (see “Mind Mapping A Better WBS.” In this article, I discuss how the tool also supports schedule development with various charts and views.

MindView 3 has successfully integrated mind mapping and project management processes without third-party add-ons or customization, offering the benefits of mind mapping while supporting the rigor of scope definition, cost estimation and project schedule development.
