Recent alliances, acquisitions and implementations in the world of project and portfolio management.

The Department of Defense (DoD) and its contractors are using an open source application from Microsoft to streamline compliance with earned value management reporting requirements. The Microsoft Project 2007 application is tailored for the Defense Contract Management Agency, which requires the use of the UN CEFACT standard for cost and schedule project information. The application, co-developed with partner QuantumPM, offers the tools to track this data in a format that follows specific DCMA requirements.

"Having project management software that is compliant with the UN CEFACT standard will allow DCMA to spot cost overruns and potential problems much earlier in the process, saving taxpayer money," said John Van Dinther of DCMA. "But most importantly, by streamlining this process, warfighters will get the technologies and equipment they need more efficiently." …
