Agile Contracting
Jen Girdish   (May 14, 2009)

Fixed contractual restrictions like timelines, budget and scope can be impractical on the Agile project. Here, Agile thought leaders Rachel Weston and Chris Spagnuolo share some ideas for breaking through the “iron triangle” during the contract phase of an Agile project.

Agile experts Rachel Weston and Chris Spagnuolo presented a seminar on the pitfalls of Agile contracting at the Agile Development Practices conference in Orlando, Fla., last November. PM Boulevard spoke with them about the subject of Agile contracting and gained a few project-tested tips for circumventing the restriction of fixed timelines, budgets and scope challenge.

Weston is an Agile Coach at Rally Software, with more than eight years of experience in the software development industry working with both in-house IT and product development teams and as a consultant on software and strategic initiatives. She has held many functional roles, including IT manager and director, project manager and business analyst. Throughout her career, Weston has worked to improve processes to create a more collaborative working environment. She is passionate about the positive changes Agile methods can enable for development teams and their customers.

Spagnuolo has working in the Geographic Information Systems field for nearly 15 years, with teams of varying sizes and technical ability in a wide variety of roles, from GIS technician to project manager.
