Twitter is getting a lot of hype these days, but can the social networking and micro-blogging utility serve a practical purpose in the world of project management? Yes : )
Twitter seems to be one of the hottest tools these days. At the recent Scrum Gathering in Orlando, Florida, many attendees could be found updating their twitter feeds, or sending tweets as it is known. The crowd, mostly project managers, was there to expand their knowledge of Scrum, a form of Agile project management. Twitter allowed them to share their observations on the presentations with other attendees in real time via their mobile phones, as well as with people who weren’t in attendance.
This is just one example of how twitter can be used. “Our currency as project managers is based on our relationships with other people” says Dave Prior, PMP, CSP, program manager for EMC (twitter id - @mrsungo), “and twitter lets us build that relationship.”
This approach can be used on a project as well.
