Cloud computing is coming, but not as soon as the hype might suggest. From security to reliability, there are a number of concerns that must be resolved before organizations will commit to full-scale adoption. Here are the top 10 barriers to enterprise cloud computing, and what it will take to make the trend a business reality.

There has been lots of hype about cloud computing. For all the media exposure and promotion by vendors and analysts, there are some significant issues and challenges that must be overcome before adoption can truly accelerate in the enterprise space. We are in the early stages of this trend, and there are many reasons why enterprise adoption will be slower than those hyping it would have you expect.
 
The more I study this topic the more I believe that this is a long-term disruptive trend in the enterprise space. The 'utility' vision that technology writer Nick Carr originally had is not something we'll see mature in the enterprise space for many years. However, I do see the transformation beginning. Certainly virtualization and software-as-a-service (SaaS) are among the major driving forces behind the trend.
