Projects@Work - PPM Tool Adds Earned Value

Last fall CA announced that its project and portfolio management solution Clarity would integrate earned value management (EVM) as a component. On behalf of Projects@Work, I had a chance to walk through a demonstration of the new release with Gil Digioia, vice president of federal PPM sales; Jose Mora, senior director, product marketing; and Brian Nathanson, senior principal consultant, technical sales.

Any tool in the project management marketplace that can help an organization implement earned value management is welcome. Unfortunately, some tools shortchange the principles of EVM and fail to accurately represent cost and schedule performance.

The most commonly violated EVM principle is the requirement that the assessment of work completed be done without regard to the funds or time spent. Funds spent are just ACWP (AC).
