Stanford Offers Decision-Risk Certificate Online

Two-year-old Strategic Decision and Risk Management certificate program probes the difference between good decisions and good outcomes.

The Stanford Center for Professional Development has made Stanford University’s Strategic Decision and Risk Management certificate program available online. The Stanford Center for Professional Development, in partnership with Strategic Decisions Group, developed the certificate program to help organizations make better strategic decisions while managing risk. The six-course program has been offered on the university campus since 2006.

“Today’s organizations require that more people have greater decision-making skills,” said Carl Spetzler, program director and chairman of Strategic Decisions Group. “With the flattening of organizations, more authority has been delegated to the front lines, and rapid decision cycles are required to remain competitive. The Strategic Decision and Risk Management program is growing rapidly, with much of that growth from participants outside of the United States, representing more than 25 countries. Making the program available completely online will accelerate the growth of the program worldwide.”

The Strategic Decision and Risk Management program is led by Professor Ronald Howard, Department of Management Science and Engineering, who founded the discipline of decision analysis in the mid-1960s.
