PMI Opens India Office
  (April 3, 2008)

Office in Mubai will promote project management principles and awareness in country with third largest PMI membership.

Project Management Institute (PMI) has opened a new office in Mumbai, India, to foster the advancement of standardized project management principles through leadership development and certification programs. The office will also work to generate awareness of and demand for project management, and support business and government in applying and understanding the professional knowledge, skills, tools and techniques that ensure projects are completed on time and within cost. PMI has also appointed Raj Kalady as managing director for the India office.

India has the third largest PMI membership — after the United States and Canada — with seven chapters and more than 11,000 members, a majority of which are in the IT sector. According to a recent government report, 297 of 866 current government projects are running behind schedule and more than Rs 24,000 crore (US$ 6 billion) will be spent additionally because of the delay — in some cases of over 16 years.

“Trained and credentialed project managers can help India unlock its obvious potential as they bring projects in on time and within budget and make project management indispensable for predictable and positive business results that create value for an organization and its stakeholders,” said Gregory Balestrero, Chief Executive Officer, PMI, who was in India for the inauguration of the new office.
