By now most organization understand that project portfolio management (PPM) is about aligning projects with business strategy to improve performance and value. But that general definition belies the many difficult challenges of implementing PPM and realizing its potential benefits. Both hard and anecdotal evidence suggests that the promise of PPM too often falls far short of expectations. The successful practice of PPM depends on a multitude of factors, including an organization’s grip on its business goals, resources and culture.
