Focus On Value

Requirements management is a critical success factor on any development project, but emotions, guesswork and rework can make it almost impossible for product managers to focus on strategic value. Telelogic says its latest release can help, by automating idea-capture and supporting value-based analysis throughout the development lifecycle.
Aberdeen Group found in 2006 that most of the problems that arise in new product development projects are self-inflicted. A survey by the IT technology research group found that 42 percent of organizations said “unclear or continually changing product definitions” was the biggest reason products fail. The second biggest cause of failure, at 37 percent, was that the product does not meet customer or market requirements.
"To understand what is valued by the market, product managers need to collect information from a number of inputs such as customer feedback, sales and marketing ideas, and competitive intelligence,” says Jim Brown, vice president of Global Product Innovation & Engineering Research for the Aberdeen Group. “With the centralization of this information, analytics and visualization of customer value can speed up the pace and accuracy of product delivery by eliminating the emotion, guesswork, and rework often associated with uninformed scope and planning decisions."
Earlier this year, Telelogic released Focal Point Focus on Product Management, which provides visualization, prioritization, analysis and planning capabilities, along with a best-practice framework, to support market-driven product lifecycle management.
