The percentage of women in the IT workforce is dropping … almost half of all project management offices do a poor job of training or none at all … and China is looking for a few (100,000) good project managers. A by-the-numbers look at project management-related trends.
In the United States, almost twice as many women as men joined the Project Management Institute in 2000 through 2002, according to a survey by PMI, although men outnumbered women two to one in the overall international membership (see “It’s A Woman’s World, Too”). But the significant strides women continue to make in the field of project management are not indicative of larger IT workforce developments in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s one of several notable trends and facts gathered in this month’s “Go Figure,” which marks the online incarnation of an old Projects@Work favorite known as “The Closeout” in its back-of-magazine days. Moving forward, this new department will be archived in the Latest Research area under the RESOURCES menu on the homepage.
