In preparing for a high-stakes project -- the redesign of a best-selling car -- VW Brazil revved up an ambitious training program to open up lines of communication, shape up project management methods and build up a team culture supported by a new PMO.

Improved communication and increased collaboration. That’s what the common ground of high-level project management training is delivering to employees at Volkswagen Brazil. According to Raimundo Ramos, VW Brazil’s Sao Paulo-based human resources executive manager, project-focused people are talking more effectively and department silos are coming down.

Thus far, 44 VW employees have earned master’s certificates in project management and 125 more have received basic project management training. The training is provided by Arlington, Va.-based ESI International via a multiyear agreement that continues through 2006.

And the advancements are only beginning.
