Top 10 IT Projects in 2009

Information security leads the list of planned IT projects in the next 12 months, according to a survey of CIOs.
Despite a challenging economy, seven out of 10 chief information officers (CIOs) say their companies will invest in information technology initiatives in the next 12 months. Information security topped the list of projects executives expect their firms to invest in, with 43 percent of the response, followed by virtualization (28 percent) and data center efficiency (27 percent).
The survey was developed by Robert Half Technology, a leading provider of IT professionals on a project and full-time basis, and conducted by an independent research firm. It was based on telephone interviews with more than 1,400 CIOs from companies across the United States with 100 or more employees.
Following are five areas of IT investment that were cited most frequently by CIOs interviewed:
Information security (43 percent): In any economy, protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information is a must-have for companies of all sizes.
