PMP 101
Naveen Gabrani   (September 14, 2006)

Have you ever wondered if pursuing the Project Management Professional certification is worth the time and effort? Are you curious about what the exam entails? Here is a primer on the PMP exam, including what it covers, how to prepare for it, and 10 sample test questions and answers.

PMP stands for Project Management Professional. In today’s tough job market, PMP certification from the Project Management Institute can act as one more selling points in your résumé. There are 170,000 PMP-certified professionals in 120 countries, and many companies require the PMP certificate for project management positions. All else being equal, most employers prefer a PMP-certified candidate. Certification alone does not guarantee a job, but it acts as a reassurance to a perspective employer that the candidate at least understands the basics of project management.

For the individual project management professional, perhaps even more useful than receiving the certificate is the learning involved in preparing for the exam. The certification enforces discipline. Preparing for certification helps bring focus, and updates your skills.
